// 1991 Porsche Supercharged Strosek C2 Coupe![]() German Auto of Knoxville overcame a number of engineering challenges in order to produce a reliable supercharger package for the street. Needing to maintain the retractable rear wing of the 964, G.A. needed to find a supercharger unit with a different configuration than the Paxton units they had been using. The Whipple supercharger uses a pair of counter-rotating, helical vaned rotor screws which compress the air in the unit. This design has a relatively high volumetric efficiency so that it will deliver cooler, denser air to the engine than do other types of superchargers. The second challenge overcome was the high, 11.3:1 compression ratio of the stock 964 motor. GA disassembles the top end of each 964 engine and re-machines the pistons to reduce the compression ratio. They reassemble the heads using 935 racing motor interlocking sealing rings for head gaskets on the early 964 cars that were not equipped with head gaskets from the factory. Finally, the Bosch DME unit is remapped based on a chassis dyno to maximize engine output and durability. This level of engineering results in a truly impressive package that has that old-time look and feel of real craftsmanship.
Driving Impressions: OK, how does this baby drive? I have already named her “The White Devil” – if there is a hooligan lurking inside you, this car will bring it out in a heartbeat. The exhaust note sounds like someone stuffed a V8 in there somewhere, and the low-end throttle response is simply amazing. I have never driven a Porsche of any elk with this much low end grunt. Once you are into the power-band it is smooth and controllable. This is truly a car that is easy to steer with the throttle. The H&R sport suspension is firm, but not punishing, and provides no hidden surprises. I have not had the chance to track this car, but I can only believe it to be a formidable weapon. What does this mean?... a fast, powerful, torqey, 911 that is easy to control?????it means lots of sliding and generally poor behavior – the hooligan is released! The stupid grin seems to take longer to melt away than the car does to cool down, and you find new excuses to go somewhere, anywhere, in this car.
There you have it, true love – Porsche style. Here is a beautiful, well crafted and rare 911 with more low-end torque and better manners than my beloved turbos. All this with good working air, power steering, and all the other creature comforts that make a good daily driver (except gas mileage- of course). Perfectly documented ownership and service records& featured in Excellence magazine- these only ad to the car’s value and investment potential.
